The Accessible Book and Story Festival is the first event of its kind in the UK. It will showcase some of the amazing ways that books and stories are being made accessible for children with additional needs. The hub of the festival is at Edinburgh’s Scottish Storytelling Centre on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th September 2024.

The festival centres on discussion events with experts on inclusion and representation in picture books and practical Sensory Story workshops to show how using sensory props can make a story more meaningful and engaging for people with additional needs and others.

This is a unique opportunity for people who work in libraries to develop their sensory story skills and so make their libraries more welcoming for all. Leading experts in sensory storytelling are coming from across the UK and beyond to lead workshops at the festival. Learn the theories behind sensory storytelling, how to make your stories more inclusive for people with a wide variety of additional needs and what kind of props to use and why.

The festival is being organised by My Kind of Book, a not for profit organisation which researches, creates and promotes books and stories for children with additional needs. This event is made possible by support from Creative Scotland.
