South Lanarkshire Council May Reverse School Librarian Cuts
Category: News
The South Lanarkshire Council leader Eddie McAvoy wants to withdraw a number of proposals for reductions in local services including a cut to the number of school librarians in the area.
Mr McAvoy said he was proposing to take some options for cuts off the table because the Scottish Government was giving the council a higher amount that originally planned.
A decision on formally dropping some of the proposed cuts will be made at a meeting of the council’s executive committee later. The council will then decide on what cuts and savings to actually make when it sets its budget later this month.
CILIPS will launch a campaign called #LibrariesMatter next week and that seek a pledge from local authorities to support professionally staffed school libraries and recognise their value to education and the raising attainment agenda.
