Have your say! Subject Benchmark Statement for Librarianship, Information, Knowledge, Records and Archive Management

Category: News

QQ Subject Benchmark Statement for Librarianship, Information, Knowledge, Records and Archives Management - Version for Consultation, October 2024.

Over the past year, The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) and an expert Advisory Group including a representative from CILIP Scotland have been reviewing the Subject Benchmark Statement for Librarianship, Information, Knowledge, Records and Archive Management and we are pleased to announce that the draft Statement is now open for consultation. We would be grateful for your feedback on the draft statement, and please do share this with colleagues in the discipline – we are keen to ensure the statements remain current and valuable reference points for the sector.

Subject Benchmark Statements describe the nature of study and the academic standards expected of graduates in specific subject areas. They show what graduates might reasonably be expected to know, do and understand at the end of their studies. While they are not regulatory requirements, they are sector-owned reference points, developed and written by academics on behalf of their subject.

QAA leads the development of Subject Benchmark Statements and reviews them on a cyclical basis to ensure they continue to serve as useful points of reference for their respective discipline communities. To ensure each review considers a diverse and broad spectrum of intelligence, opinion and experience, each Subject Benchmark Statement is reviewed by an advisory group comprising members of the academic community, employers, Professional, Statutory and Regulatory Bodies like CILIPS, and students.

Alongside discipline-specific information, the revised Statements consider the role of equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI), Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), enterprise and entrepreneurship, generative artificial intelligence, and accessibility and the needs of disabled students within the context of the respective discipline area.

How to respond

The consultation documents are published on QAA’s consultation webpage and responses should be submitted via the online survey. The closing date for responses is midday on Wednesday 20th November 2024.

If you have any questions about the review of the Statement, please contact membership@qaa.ac.uk.
