Conference 2015
CILIPS annual national conference took place on 1st and 2nd June in Dundee’s Apex Hotel. Over the two days we featured a range of keynote speakers, two launches, an AGM and an awards presentation. As in previous years, the conference sold out and there was a waiting list for delegate places. Among over 300 delegates were Carol Edwards, chair of CILIP CYMRU, Philip Cohen, President of the from Library Association of Ireland, Martyn Wade, Chair of CILIP Board and staff from the CILIP UK Office.
President Jeanette Castle opened the Conference and chaired keynote presentations from Dr John Scally, our National Librarian, Gerald Leitner, President of the Austrian Library Association, Amina Shah,CEO of SLIC and author and journalist Peter Ross.
A series of seminars featuring professional development issues, a panel session on the future of the profession, prison libraries, reader development, digital preservation and project work from around Scotland and beyond were both well attended and received.
Highlights across the two days included:
-
the SLIC launch of the first National Public Libraries Strategy for Scotland;
-
presentation of student award medals to Beverley Ager from RGU and Nicole Wilson from Strathclyde University;
-
the launch by CILIPS of a new £10,000 professional development fund for our members in Scotland and a new CILIPS Linked in Group;
-
approval at AGM for Honorary membership awards to be made to Cathy Gormal, Robert Ruthven and Yvonne Manning at our Autumn Gathering in Glasgow on November 19th.
Our conference exhibition was well supported with 2CQR taking up a platinum sponsorship and SOLUS parking their exhibition bus outside and supplying ice cream to visitors! We were also pleased that both RGU and Strathclyde University attended as exhibitors and engaged with so many members.
Thanks to everyone who attended, speakers, delegates and exhibitors!
