Conference 2012
The CILIPS Annual Conference 2012 was held at the Apex Hotel in Dundee, Monday 11 and Tuesday 12 June. The theme of the event was Enriching Society and a number of speakers delivered presentations on the impact libraries have on the lives of our users. Over 200 delegates attended the event which also featured a fully subscribed trade exhibition.
Monday 11 June
Day One began with a series of pre-conference speed surgeries, aimed at those delegates arriving early in Dundee. The Conference was then formally opened by this year’s President, Professor Peter Reid, before the first keynote address by Klaus Tochtermann. The Scottish Information Literacy Framework and Community of Practice was also launched. There followed two rounds of parallel sessions, before the closing keynote from Rosemary Goring, Literary Editor of The Herald.
Honorary Awards were also presented to Anne Harrison, Christine May and Alan Reid.
Tuesday 12 June
Day Two also commenced with a series of speed surgeries before the first keynote from Steve Wheeler. There were further rounds of parallel sessions, featuring input from several special interest groups. A Future Skills session was also facilitated by Simon Edwards, CILIP Director of Professional Services. The final keynote came from Norma McDermott and closing remarks from the CILIPS President.
The CILIPS AGM was held during the lunch break and awards were made to student prize-winners over the course of the day.
