#LibrariesMatter
Category: Blog
CILIP in Scotland believes that Libraries Matter.
We will be campaigning under this banner in the lead up to the local government elections in May on behalf of Scotland’s school and public libraries.
The campaign seeks to influence candidates standing in local government elections and calls on those who use or work in libraries to get involved in advocating the benefits and value our libraries deliver.
We want candidates standing in the local government elections to pledge that, if elected, they will:
- Support our public libraries and the vital contribution they make to community cohesion, social and economic wellbeing, digital skills and literacy.
- Support professionally staffed school libraries and recognise their value to education and the raising attainment agenda.
We’ve produced a handy guide to help people get involved and a set of facts showing why it is vital that public and school libraries are supported.
Already, there’s been great support for the campaign from organisations such as the Scottish Parent Teacher Council, EIS, Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations and Macmillan Cancer Care and authors such as Irvine Welsh, Graeme Macrae Burnet, Val McDermid and Chris Brookmyre.
Why not add your voice too?
