The Scottish Library and Information Council (SLIC) have announced that Jeanette Castle, University Librarian at the University of the West of Scotland (UWS), will Chair the newly established Public Library Strategy Advisory Group.
SLIC have formed this new group to support the vision and implementation of a new public library strategy for Scotland from 2021, building on the excellent work and success of Ambition and Opportunity: A Strategy for Public Libraries in Scotland 2015-2020. 18 members from across the library profession and other key sectors will join Jeanette to work on the group.
The advisory group will make recommendations for the strategy, a national vision for public libraries, and how this can be achieved. This five-year strategy will focus on people, places, and partnerships as well as considering climate change and sustainability.
Jeanette has a wealth of experience, with a 34-year career in the library sector which has seen her working in the public, school, and higher education sectors. She was also involved in the development of Ambition and Opportunity and has long been an advocate for innovation, introducing a number of creative practices and initiatives throughout her career. Additionally, she is a champion for professional development and getting involved with the wider profession.
Jeanette was our CILIPS President in 2015 and holds the title of CILIPS Honorary Vice President and we were absolutely delighted to hear this news. We would like to extend our congratulations to Jeanette and are excited to see the developments and outcomes of the group’s work.
