CILIPS Board Adopts CILIP Intellectual Freedom Policy
The CILIP Scotland board have recently agreed to adopt the new Intellectual Freedom Policy put forward by CILIP. It reflects and adds to the recent work including the Managing Safe and Inclusive Public Library Services: A Practical Guide from CILIP, and our very own CILIPS research funded toolkit REVEAL: Reinforcing Ethics and Values for Effective Advocacy for Libraries by Dr David McMenemy.
The new guidance shares that:
“The right to intellectual freedom is a foundation of a strong and representative democracy, and of a society in which everyone can contribute to, participate in and benefit from the intellectual, creative and cultural life of their community. The phrase “freedom of access to information and freedom of expression” is also used as an alternative term for intellectual freedom.”
