The award is open to UK library-based initiatives in any sector that change the lives of their users and communities for the better. These projects not only transform lives at a personal level, but have a real impact on the wellbeing of local communities and help fuel the local and national economy.
Announced during Libraries Week the winning project will receive a £4,000 investment and two runner-up services will be recognised.

Last year’s award went to the library at HMP Norwich for their Cognitive Stimulation Therapy intervention to support prisoners with dementia and memory problems. Previous winners include Norfolk’s county-wide Healthy Libraries initiative; HMP Edinburgh’s prison library service which took a fresh approach to education, skills and rehabilitation; and Bookstart, the Government-backed scheme first piloted by Birmingham Libraries which now reaches 3 million babies and their parents across the UK.
