Development of school library strategy to begin in autumn
Category: News
The Scottish Government has written to the Public Petitions Committee to confirm that development and engagement on a school library strategy will begin in the autumn.
The response, available on the Committee’s website, confirms that the Scottish Library and Information Council (SLIC) will lead the development of the strategy in collaboration with key partner organisations. The strategy will build upon the work undertaken by SLIC with Education Scotland to develop and integrate librarian-focused guidance into the main How Good Is Our School 4 (HGIOS4) whole school self-evaluation framework.
The document confirms that the engagement to develop the strategy will include CILIP in Scotland and other stakeholders such as the Association of Directors of Education in Scotland. The aim is for the final strategy to be agreed and published ahead of the 2018/19 school year.
The Government’s response relates to the ongoing petition by CILIPS Trustee Duncan Wright asking for a strategy as part of his ‘Save Scotland’s School Libraries’ campaign.
