On Thursday 26th January a delegation from CILIP in Scotland met at the Scottish Parliament with Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills, John Swinney.
At the meeting CILIPS:
• Outlined the damaging effects of recent budget cuts on school library services across the nation;
• Set out the case for professionally staffed school libraries open and available throughout the school day; and
• Put forward proposals for embedding school library service provision and mandatory national service standards in the proposed new framework for education.
The Deputy First Minister agreed to give the matter consideration before further discussions take place.
