Regional branches and special interest groups provide a link between the membership and CILIP in Scotland staff and Trustee Board. All branches and groups send a representative along to the CILIP in Scotland Council meetings twice a year.

LOCAL BRANCHES

CILIP in Scotland members are automatically a member of their local branch and we have 6 covering the whole of the country. Check out their web pages below for updates or contact the branch committee directly.

The remit of each branch is to contribute to the formulation of CILIPS policy, act as a link between Council and membership, stimulate wider involvement of members and students by organising professional and social events and disseminating information on branch activities. Each branch has a committee that plans and manages the branch activities. If you’re interested in becoming more involved with your regional branch, contact the Chair or Secretary via the pages below or e mail admin@cilips.org.uk.

SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS (SIGS)

There are around 30 SIGs across CILIP UK and, of these, six are active as distinct Scottish divisions (Youth Libraries, School Libraries, Metadata and Discovery, Local Studies, Academic and Research Libraries, and Public & Mobile Libraries) meaning they have a committee based in Scotland. The group network allows grassroots involvement in the work of the professional body, as well as encouraging members to pursue professional specialisms.

More information about the UK wide network of special interest groups can be found on the CILIP website, which also outlines the processes for joining and changing groups.
