CILIPS regularly run campaigns in support of our members, highlighting why libraries and librarians are essential in Scotland. Please also check out our series of guest blogs on Campaigning for Libraries, written by professionals and patrons who have been involved in recent library advocacy.
Libraries Week is an annual showcase and celebration of the best that libraries have to offer. Each year we pick a theme and explore the innovative and surprising things that libraries are doing to support their communities.
In 2023, Libraries Week became Green Libraries Week! Between the 2nd and 8th October, we celebrated the work going on in libraries across Scotland and the rest of the UK focused on sustainability and climate change. The response was so overwhelmingly positive that we returned to our green theme in 2024 – read the recap!

In the lead up to the General Election on June 8th 2017, CILIP called on all political parties across the UK to commit to a public declaration that ‘Facts Matter’.

This campaign sought to influence candidates standing in local government elections and called on those who use or work in libraries to get involved in advocating the benefits and value our libraries deliver.
