Get involved with Wiki Loves Monuments and Doors Open Day this September

There is still time to get involved with the annual Wiki Loves Monuments competition, which will run until the end of September. This is an annual international photography competition supported by the Wikimedia Foundation which aims to crowdsource high quality, open-licensed images of scheduled monuments and listed buildings around the world. Documenting our heritage and sharing it for the common good is more important than ever before.

Wikimedia UK is one of many international chapters that takes part in the competition, offering prizes for the best pictures from Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and England, and submitting the winning entries to the international competition.

You do not have to be a photography expert to take part and you also don’t have to wander too far afield, as Scotland has thousands of unique listed buildings, some of which you likely see every day. Additionally, you can also upload your old holiday snaps as photos don’t have to be taken in September to be eligible for the competition, just uploaded between 1-30th September.

This September also marks the 30th Anniversary of the Scottish Doors Open Day festival. This festival celebrates heritage and the built environment and offers free access to more than 1,000 venues across the country throughout the month. Why not combine the two events – visit some interesting sites for Doors Open Day and take some snaps of them for Wiki Loves Monuments!

Last year Scotland uploaded 4411 pictures, and it would be great to beat that this year so do get involved!
