Western Isles to continue mobile library service

CILIPS is delighted to note that Comhairle nan Eilean Siar have decided to continue their mobile library service in its current form.

Council officers had put forward 4 options for savings and had recommended replacing the current model with “community hubs” that would be managed by the library staff but delivered by community volunteers.

We, along with other organisations such as the Literature Alliance, wrote to the Council to raise our concerns at this proposal.

Councillors voted 16-12 to retain the mobile libraries and two new vans are now to be purchased.
