Alison Bogle, Library Services Manager for The Health Management Library has won Mentor of the Year award from CILIP, the library and information association. The award and a £250 prize was presented in London on October 12 during the very first Libraries Week.
Nominations for Mentor of the Year are based on the experiences of mentees who are receiving support from a mentor to expand their knowledge and skills within the library and information sector. CILIP has over 500 mentors who actively share their time and knowledge to support the career development of others who want to improve their skills and experience.
Alison manages the Health Management Library which is part of NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) – and supports the information needs of NHS and social care managers, leaders and non-clinical staff for all of Scotland, as well as staff within NSS itself. Her team also manage the specialist portal for management information in NHS Scotland.
Alison said “I have been a CILIP mentor for about 7 years and particularly enjoy the fact that it allows me to meet librarians from outside the health sector. I have mentored candidates working in public libraries, the voluntary sector and the NHS. Currently I am mentoring a candidate from an academic library which is a new experience for me.I was very surprised when I heard that I had been selected to receive the Mentor of the Year award and feel honoured just to have been nominated for it. I am very grateful to CILIP for the recognition which has inspired me to continue to develop my mentoring skills.”
