Following the recent nomination and election process, CILIP Scotland is delighted to announce the appointment of our Vice President for 2025, and two new trustees joining the board in January of 2025.
Our Vice President for 2025, who will then serve as President in 2026, is Shelagh Toonen. Shelagh is the librarian at Elgin Academy, was Chair of School Libraries Group Scotland from 2019-2024, and was CILIPS library and information professional of the year in 2018.
Also joining the Board is Dawn Vallance, Principal Librarian at Glasgow Libraries, who was elected by members in the recent voting process. After a time cataloguing for LMS suppliers, Dawn moved to school libraries, working first in North Ayrshire and then Glasgow before moving into public libraries. Dawn currently looks after the Mitchell Library with Glasgow Libraries.
The CILIPS Board have also co-opted Michelle Craig onto the Board following the extremely close voting process. Michelle has a PhD from the University of Glasgow focusing on the Hunterian Library and has worked in various libraries including in schools and in Glasgow University Library. She currently works as a lecturer in Information Studies at the University of Glasgow.
Both Trustees will serve 3 years from 1st January 2025
CILIPS Board would like to thank Katrina Brodin from Glasgow Libraries, who is stepping down at the end of this year. Katrina has supported CILIPS via roles on various committees as well as being an outstanding Trustee and we wish her all the best.
