Scotland’s libraries supporting women thanks to the ALLIANCE Women’s Health programme
Longtime friends of CILIPS, The ALLIANCE, who joined us at a past #Winspiration webinar to demonstrate how libraries of all sectors can use their Conversation Café Toolkit for Women’s Health to tackle stigma, combat misinformation and support women from all walks of life, have published a new report outlining the highlights of their Women’s Health programme 2022-2024.
We’ve heard from women that prevailing stigma, misinformation, and myths around women’s health, as well as difficulty accessing services, remain significant barriers to getting the support and information they might need. Therefore empowering and supporting women with information about their health, and promoting a culture change where women’s health is understood and supported have been key aspects of our programme.
The report spotlights the work of the Sir Alex Ferguson Library at Glasgow Caledonian University within their Relax and Renew wellbeing space to make a number of ALLIANCE women’s health resources free and accessible for students, staff and community users. As highlighted by library staff Julie Smith and Kimberly Bryce, the library’s #Winspiration-al activities have included an International Women’s Day Women’s Health event, the hybrid relaunch of their popular Menopause Cafés, and the creation of a new Menopause resource list.
