Case Study on delivering basic digital skills- Inverclyde Libraries
At Inverclyde Libraries we provide digital support to all from the basic beginner to ECDL level. Many of our learners have confidence issues and find learning in the informal atmosphere of the library a positive experience. Here is a quote from May Freeburn who came to us with no skills in computing whatsoever.
“Previous to going to the classes at the library I was really a bit thick with computers. I could just about switch one on and off but the bit in the middle would completely befuddle me. The classes went at a speed that I could follow and the amount of students wasn’t too numerous, so nobody got left behind. I thoroughly enjoyed learning a new skill. I now have an email address; I have written a 10 chapter story and am becoming an expert at crocheting. Most of my crocheting skills I have learned from American websites which send me hundreds of free crochet patterns that I can print off. I had registered with a web site to receive these.”
May has been through Basic Computing, Intermediate 1 and Intermediate 2 classes and is now registered with us for ECDL. This is just one example of successful digital participation in our libraries.
